Tropicana has a new orange juice beverage that is sweetened with stevia. Check out Trop50 at the Tropicana website. It contains 42% orange juice (not from concentrate). This reduces the sugar content to 10 g per 8 fl. oz. (regular Tropicana orange juice has 22 g). This may be a good way to reduce your (or your family's) sugar and calorie intake without giving up orange juice completely.

With a large garden, several fruit trees, and numerous fruit bushes, I like to think of my backyard as a small farm. I hope to produce plenty of food for the family, and someday I may have enough to sell at a Farmer's Market. But ... how can I sell at a Farmer's Market unless I'm a farmer? Well, that's what I am. I'm a backyard farmer!
If you have a small farm in your backyard, let people know with this shirt! It is available in a variety of colors and styles, including men's and women's styles.
Zevia is "The Natural Alternative to Diet Soda". It uses stevia, which currently can only be sold as a dietary supplement in the US (although that may change in the near future). All four flavors (Cola, Twist (lemon lime), Orange, and Ginger Root Beer) are all natural. Zevia contains no sugar or artificial sweeteners. Best of all, it tastes great, especially the Ginger Root Beer.
UPDATE: The Zevia blog has information about this, along with quotes from two emails I sent them!
I suspect they are doing this for two reasons:
- Increase the number of coffee pod buyers
- Sell more through word-of-mouth advertising (that's what the $20 coupons are for)
Since I posted about Rice Cream a while ago, I thought I should pass this allergy alert along:

If you would like a dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten-free ice cream alternative, try Rice Cream from Good Karma Foods. All of their products are certified organic, and they have several flavors in pint containers as well as chocolate and strawberry in 4-oz. "Sundae Cups." They also have chocolate-covered bars with either chocolate or vanilla Rice Cream. Check the frozen food section of your local natural food store or co-op. I found it at Lakewinds in Chanhassen, MN.
We have tried several flavors, and we like them all!!!
If you can tolerate goat's milk but not cow's milk, you may want to try LaLoo's Goat Milk Ice Cream. I tried some last night. It is very good, but the flavor is a little different than cow's milk ice cream (there is a noticable flavor similar to goat cheese). If you are on the west coast, check the store locator to find a local store. If you are in Minnesota, Lakewinds now carries it at their Minnetonka store.
We just tried a new veggie burger from Sunshine Burgers. Unlike most veggie burgers available in stores, these are soy-free and dairy-free. They also are gluten-free, and have no tree nuts or peanuts in the original and southwest flavors (the two that we tried). According to the website, they also have a barbecue burger which includes walnuts, but this was not available at the store.
The burgers are made using sunflower seeds, brown rice, carrots, herbs, and salt. The barbecue and southwest flavors have additional ingredients, including beans, but still have the same sunflower seed and brown rice base. All of the burgers are certified organic. Check the frozen food section of your local natural food store.
We all liked the flavor of these burgers, including our 3-year-old daughter! Although we do eat meat, we enjoy having something different for a change, and it is nice to find a vegan product such as this that does not use soy.
