More about soy. Talks about health issues as well as environmental impacts.

Another reason to avoid soy (or soya, if you prefer).

New sauce recipe - not bad

Here's what I remember of it:

2 big (and I mean big!) cloves of garlic, or maybe 3-6 smaller cloves would be good
1 can (15 oz?) of coconut milk
cucumber
dill weed
tahini
lemon juice
salt

Throw it all in the Vita-Mix and run it until it is smooth. I think I forgot something, but I can't remember what ... I guess that's what "forgot" means.

Maybe when my brain is working better, I'll come back and add to this to try to make more sense out of it.

Dill ... lemon juice ... garlic ... yeah, that's about it. Oh, onion would be good in it, too, I think. Kinda thin, though. Not sure what to do about that.

Goodnight.

Frosting Recipe

| Comment | 1 TrackBack

This is the frosting recipe that my mom always used:

Decorator Frosting

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 cups pwd. sugar
  • 5 tbsp. (1/3 cup) milk
  • 1 tsp. flavoring
Beat well with mixer. Keeps well in refrigerator.

I use organic palm oil for the shortening (no trans fats!), organic powdered sugar, organic rice milk, and organic vanilla to make a frosting that is trans-fat free, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, and organic. Yeah, it's still just fat and sugar, so don't get any ideas about it being healthy ... just not quite as unhealthy as "conventional" frosting. :-)
